Momentum building for potential growth

Premier Smith, thank you for joining us today and for sharing your perspective on Alberta's future.

I still remember the first time we formally sat down together.

During our conversation, you reached for your phone and pulled up a list of priorities you believed were standing in the way of Alberta's success.

Since that conversation, we have seen meaningful progress on many fronts thanks to your leadership.

Governments have made progress towards reducing regulatory timelines for major projects, and moving away from the emissions cap, and a new Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance program, to name a few – these are positive and it is encouraging.

We have seen your government and the federal government come together and we have seen momentum build around major opportunities that can strengthen Alberta’s and Canada’s prosperity for decades to come – notably a new West Coast pipeline, the Pathways project, and the prospect of increasing production over the long term.

There is still more work to do but I’m optimistic about the potential for Canadians, for Albertans, for the industry, and for Imperial.

We share your vision for doubling Alberta's oil production.

Imperial is continually finding ways to produce reliable and affordable energy – and lower emissions as we develop and advance new and exciting technologies. 

In fact, with a supportive fiscal and regulatory framework, Imperial has the potential to double our gross operated upstream production while we also advancing additional downstream biofuel production. 

These opportunities can play an important role in Alberta's next chapter and further strengthen Canada's position as a reliable supplier of responsibly produced energy.

At Imperial, we believe those opportunities exist because Alberta remains a place where people are willing to think big, invest for the long term, and work together to get things done.

Alberta is a driving force behind Canada’s economy, and as a national company, we believe a united Canada is the strongest position we can take to face the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Canada and Alberta work best when people, products, energy, and investment can move freely and reliably across the country. 

After almost 150 years operating across Canada, we at Imperial believe these national connections are worth protecting and strengthening.

We respect there is a diversity of views on this topic, and we respect the democratic process that allows those discussions to occur…and I encourage all of us to participate and vote on October 19th.  

Premier, your message today is fundamentally an optimistic one.

That optimism matters. So does the persistence required to turn ambition into results.

That brings me back to that first meeting when you showed me your list of priorities.

What stands out today is the progress that has been made in turning that list into action.
