• Oct. 5, 2026For generations, Norman Wells and Imperial have shared much more than a place on a map. Families have grown up there. Employees have built careers there. And relationships with the community have grown.
“More than a hundred years ago, a well was drilled in Norman Wells. Over time, this place has become an important part of Canada’s energy story,” said Josh Hutchings, Norman Wells Operations Manager.
With production now concluded and power generation transitioned, Imperial’s work in Norman Wells is entering a new phase – one that will continue to be informed by local knowledge.
“The knowledge of the Sahtú has shaped how this land is understood and cared for. We are grateful for that and we’re not done learning from it,” said Josh.
The next chapter
“We remain committed to open communication, to meaningful involvement, and to responsible closure and reclamation for the years ahead,” said Josh. “This land holds countless stories of community, gathered, shared and strengthened over a hundred years. And this community will write many more over the years to come.”
