At Imperial Oil, protecting the personal information of valued customers like you is very important to us.

This policy relates to the Personal Information collected by Imperial Oil and its affiliates.

This policy applies to the collection, storage, use, disclosure, protection, verification, and accuracy of personal information collected and held by Imperial Oil.

“Personal Information” is any information that identifies you or could be reasonably associated with you. The Personal Information we collect may include contact information such as your name, email address, home address and postal code, phone number as well as specific products and services you purchase in Esso or Mobil branded retail stores or from us online.

We only collect personal information for purposes directly associated with our business activities.

Imperial Oil is committed to ensuring that you are informed about the way in which Personal Information will be used. Imperial Oil is also committed to protecting the privacy and security of the Personal Information of individuals with whom we interact in accordance with applicable privacy legislation.

2. Consent

Imperial Oil does not use or disclose Personal Information for purposes other than the purpose for which it is collected, except with your consent or as required by law. We collect, use, and disclose your personal information with your consent, which may be express or implied, or as required or permitted by law. By providing us with your personal information, you consent to our collection, use and disclosure of that Personal Information in accordance with this policy.

3. Categories of Personal Data and Purposes for Data Collection

3.1 Personal Data collected from visitors to the Site

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• to provide our products and services and contract with you, including customer support;
• to manage our relationship with you, including feedback management and for customer surveys;
• to provide you with general and personalized electronic and non-electronic direct marketing information and support our targeted advertising initiatives concerning our products and services as well as our business partners’ products and services (including promotions, contests, prize draws, competitions, and sweepstakes);
• business analytics, including consumer and operations research, to assess the effectiveness of our sales, online service, marketing, and advertising

We may use the information we collect about you in other ways, which we will tell you about at the time we collect it or before we begin using it for those other purposes.

Imperial Oil does not sell or rent any of your Personal Information.

In this table we describe the categories of information that we gather from visitors to the Site, the purpose for which we use the information and the legal basis which justifies each processing operation.

When Imperial Oil relies on its legitimate interest as a legal basis to Process the Personal Data, Imperial Oil will ensure that its legitimate business interests to pursue the purposes stated in the table above (generally its interest to promote the Imperial Oil products and services), do not disproportionately and adversely impact the visitor’s rights and freedoms.

When Imperial Oil relies on the Individual’s consent as a legal basis to Process the Personal Data, visitors can withdraw their consent at any time, for the future. Generally, you are under no obligation to provide your personal information. However, in certain cases, we may be unable to provide you with our services unless you provide your personal information.

We may combine the information you provide to us with information that we collect through automated methods, and with information we receive from other sources. For example, when you add a method of payment to your profile in our mobile app, we may combine your profile with information we receive from our payment processors or other providers regarding transactions made with the same payment credentials at our stations.

3.2 Personal data collected from visitors to third party sites.

We use third-party advertising technology to provide ads when you visit sites upon which we advertise.  When you access an ad, a "cookie" file will be stored on your computer. This information is used to help manage our on-line advertising. 4. How we share the information we collect

We do not sell your personal information and only share your information as described in this Privacy Statement or as otherwise communicated to you at the time we collect your information.

We may share your personal information with:

• vendors who help us operate our business (including information technology service providers and marketing agencies that we use as well as those who use the information to detect or prevent fraud for us, and who may use the information to provide fraud detection and prevention services to others);
• public authority and courts;
• buyers or other parties involved in a corporate transaction if we decide to sell or transfer all or part of our business;
• our professional advisers such as our legal representatives, auditors and insurance brokers; 

5. Marketing communications

If you subscribe to our marketing communications, you can later opt out by following the opt-out instructions in the marketing communications we send you.

We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes unless you give us permission to do so. When we give you notice, and you consent, we will share your personal information as you direct us to.

6. Information security

We will keep your personal information secure.

We protect all personal information collected and held by us. We have implemented safeguards to prevent loss or theft, unauthorized access, use, disclosure, copying or modification. In the event that we transfer or disclose personal information to another entity, we require that entity to comply with the principles set out in these Principles and our Privacy Guidelines. 

Information from children 

The Site contains information that may be of special interest to children, but Imperial Oil does not seek through the Site to gather Personal Information from or about persons under the age of 18.

7. Dissemination of information to third parties

Communicating via the Internet and sending information, products, and services to you by other means necessarily involves your Personal Information passing through or being handled by third parties, but Imperial Oil does not sell or distribute your Personal Information to third parties for purposes of allowing them to market their products and services to you.

We employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include fulfilling orders, deliveries, sending postal mail and e-mail, removing repetitive information from customer lists, analyzing data, providing marketing assistance, processing credit card payments, and providing customer service. They have access to Personal Information needed to perform their functions but may not use it for other purposes.

Personal data collected by Imperial Oil may be transferred among its various divisions and affiliated companies, around the world. Such transfers may involve the transfer of Personal Information from countries within the European Economic Area to countries outside the E.E.A. By submitting data on the Site, the visitor provides explicit consent to these transfers, including transborder transmission of data covered by this Privacy Statement.

8. Individual Rights

Applicable law may give you the right to know how Imperial Oil Processes your Personal Data, and to access your Personal Data held by Imperial Oil.

• Access to specific pieces of information Imperial Oil has about you or more information about our data processing practices.
• Correction of any inaccurate personal data we maintain about you.
• Restrict the processing of your personal data under certain circumstances.
• You also have a right to request a portable extract of your personal data, which will allow you to reuse your personal data for your own purposes.

9. Records Retention

Imperial Oil retains Personal Data as long as necessary to meet the purposes for which the data was collected, or in order to ensure compliance with applicable law or to protect legitimate company interests (e.g. statute of limitations periods).

10. Legal terms and conditions

Imperial Oil is bound by law to disclose any Personal Information about its customers to satisfy any law, regulation, or government regulations. To that end, we will cooperate with any law enforcement body in any investigation about unlawful activity on this site.

Imperial Oil also reserves the right to protect the rights and property of Imperial Oil and its partner companies.

All Personal Information is maintained for the purposes of the marketing of goods and services by Imperial Oil alone or in conjunction with other third parties. Your Personal Information stored by Imperial’s representative on servers based in Toronto, Ontario. Some or all of the Personal Information we collect may also be stored in a cloud-based structure with servers in Canada and in the United States.

Only Imperial Oil employees, and Imperial Oil’s duly authorized representatives and agents, who have a need to access your file in carrying out their responsibilities, will have access to your Personal Information. You have a right to access the Personal Information contained in your file.
