Kearl received provincial and federal regulatory approvals in 2007 and 2008. Imperial Oil directors approved the first phase of development in 2009.
Site construction is executed by third-party contracting companies. Kearl is designed as a camp-based project to limit impacts on local infrastructure.
Kearl will use proven technologies to produce a higher quality, marketable bitumen product.
