Esso hockey programs

Our hockey programs
Our many links with the national game are directed toward encouraging young players to take the challenge and shoot for their goals and dreams - from medals of achievement and our support of amateur hockey programs and sponsorship of our national men's and women's hockey teams, to sponsorship of the Hockey Hall of Fame and our involvement with Canada's professional hockey teams.

Esso medals

Esso Medals and Certificates of Achievement
Not just building champions on ice, but champions in life.

Established in 1981, the Esso Medals and Certificates of Achievement program has become part of the fabric of Canadian community hockey. To date nearly two million medals of achievement and over 30 million certificates of participation have been awarded to young boys and girls on behalf of Esso. Under the program, three medals of achievement: most improved player, most dedicated player, and most sportsmanlike player, are available to every hockey team registered with Hockey Canada. As well, each team can receive certificates of participation to recognize the efforts of every player.

The emphasis of the Medals and Certificates of Achievement program has never been to reward a player for having a great slap shot or superior skating skills. Instead, it recognizes players who contribute to the game of hockey through dedication, effort and fair play. By rewarding those qualities, the program hopes to go beyond hockey, to build champions in life.

Esso "Fun Days" hockey clinics
Since 1998 the Esso Fun Days program has introduced thousands of girls and women to the great game of hockey.  This unique female hockey program introduces the basic fundamental skills and rules of the game to first-time female participants of all ages for no cost.  The focus of the program is for participants to learn the basic skills, make new friends and give hockey a try without having to commit for an entire season.

Game day skate

Esso Maple Leaf Game Day Skate Program
Esso and the Toronto Maple Leafs teamed up to create this unique opportunity for minor hockey teams to visit the Air Canada Centre and observe a NHL game day skate.

There are approximately five events per season and teams can see the Toronto Maple Leafs and the visiting team go through a practice on game day.  In addition, one lucky team will have the opportunity to have a special on-ice clinic at the Air Canada Centre with Leafs hockey development staff.

T.E.A.M. hockey

Esso and Ottawa Senators T.E.A.M. Hockey Country
We are proud to support this new minor hockey initiative developed to educate and promote the fundamental core values of hockey:  T = Together, E = Educate, A = Appreciate, M= Motivate.

Minor hockey teams registering for the program sign a contract with the Senators management that they will abide by the values of the program. A series of activities exclusive to registered teams are planned for the coming season, such as the Esso Sens Game Day Experience that will provide access for minor hockey players and their parents to an Ottawa Senators team practice session.

Esso and Montreal Canadiens "Learn, Respect and Fun" Program (LRF)
We are proud to co-sponsor the Montreal Canadiens "Learn, Respect and Fun" minor hockey program in support of the growth and development of minor hockey in the province of Quebec.

The LRF Program is designed to engage all minor hockey players − boys and girls, from Novice to Bantam divisions − their coaches and parents from across Quebec to learn more about the game of hockey, to have fun and to respect all individuals associated with the sport.

A series of activities, exclusive to LRF registered teams, are planned for the upcoming season, such as the Esso Minor Hockey Festival.

Esso extra

The Esso Extra Hockey Jersey Program
We are proud to support minor hockey all across Canada by helping participants dress for success. Any family, coach or player in your association who currently participates in the Esso Extra Program can donate their Esso Extra points to your minor hockey association. And others can join the program and donate their points as well. With enough participants "pooling" their points, your hockey association can earn up to $750 towards the purchase of a set of 20 hockey jerseys for participating teams. As a long-term supporter of Hockey Canada, we believe this jersey program can help players, teams and associations have fun, reach their goals, and strengthen the community.
