Hockey's history and future collide

On March 11, female minor hockey players took over the Hockey Hall of Fame – with help from Imperial. The athletes are participating in the Little Native Hockey League (Little NHL), a tournament that brings together more than 4,000 Indigenous minor hockey players from across Ontario. The tournament, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is being held in Markham, Ontario March 11 – 15. 

The Little NHL, of which Imperial is a sponsor, has a record 28 girls’ teams participating this year. The company hosted all the players from the U13 Peewee Girls division and their coaches/chaperones at the event, which included a keynote from Victoria Bach – a forward on Toronto’s PWHL team and Canada’s National Women’s Team. Victoria is also a Mohawk from the Bay of Quinte and a North American Indigenous Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee.

The event was a great opportunity for Imperial to recognize its long history of operations in Ontario, 80+ year history of supporting hockey in Canada, long-standing sponsorship of the Hockey Hall of Fame – all while celebrating the female leaders (and possibly future HHOF inductees) of tomorrow.
