Fuels, Lubricants and Chemicals score hole in one for southern Ontario charity

The 39th annual charity golf tournament hosted by our Fuels, Lubricants and Chemicals businesses scored a hole-in-one for the Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Canada Society (FSMA) in October 2017.

The tournament, including120 customers and representatives of Imperial and ExxonMobil, raised $8,350 for the FSMA to support treatment and cure research for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a genetic muscle wasting disease.

'We were honoured to be the recipient charity for the golf tournament,” said Louise Smith of FSMAC. “Although our focus was to raise awareness and research dollars, we were also honoured to provide information and support to a tournament participant whose grandson was recently diagnosed with SMA.”

Imperial kicked in an additional $10,000 to the surprise and delight of FSMA.

“Our relationship with Imperial has brought us from no cure, no treatment, and no hope to where we now have a Health Canada approved treatment available and a gene therapy cure in second phase human trials,” said Smith. “The money raised through the tournament’s mulligan sales will further this research. We can't thank Imperial and the golfers enough for helping us reach these goals.”
