Celebrated each year on March 8, International Women’s Day is a time to highlight the achievements of women and the continuing efforts to obtain true gender equality around the world. Imperial recognizes the values of diversity and inclusion and the significant role that women have played in our company’s success.
At one time, the energy industry was exclusively male-dominated. That changed in the 1940s when Imperial was one of the first oil and gas companies to hire women as surveyors and researchers in laboratories. We have made tremendous progress since then, as an organization, industry and society. Imperial has continued to support women in the industry, and the communities in which we operate, through a number of programs which provide professional and personal growth opportunities.

Western Canada Women’s Interest Network (WCWIN)
Imperial’s WCWIN connects women across the company, and provides visible leadership, mentoring, networking and community outreach opportunities.
Indigenous Women in Community Leadership (IWCL)
IWCL is a four-week program, hosted at the Coady International Institute, which provides Indigenous women the opportunity to meaningfully connect and build leaderships skills to make a difference in their communities. Imperial is a founding sponsor of this program and has provided contributions of $3 million since 2010.
Women in Wage Network (WIWN)
In 1991, Imperial formed WIWN to support, mentor and empower women working in non-traditional careers. The network is proud to sponsor an annual education award for women pursuing non-traditional careers in the petroleum industry.
Women Building Futures (WBF)
WBF is a leading organization in trades and industrial workforce training for women. In 2015, Imperial announced a commitment of $1 million, delivered over five years.
