Site construction & work camp

Construction at Kearl is currently managed by Fluor. The main contractors working on-site are AMEC, Fluor, K2, Kiewit, PCL and Horton CBI with other contractors being added as construction activities progress. Site construction workers will be hired through Kearl’s prime contractors and subcontractors, not through Imperial Oil or Exxon Mobil.
Kearl will run as a camp-based project with a rotational shift schedule. Construction contractors on site now are currently housed in nearby construction camps. In 2012 when operations begin, operating personnel will stay in a camp close to site. This will allow Imperial to maintain a safe, healthy and productive work environment while also having minimal impact on the infrastructure needs of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
The camp-based operations will provide additional benefits such as reducing traffic volumes on highways and commuting time. Camp-based operations will also attract workers from a broader geographical base who are interested in this type of work and lifestyle.
