Keeping communities safe

Safety

We are committed to ensuring the safety of the communities near our operations.

We help keep our neighbours safe by operating our facilities within rigorous operating protocols and applicable regulations. We also have quality assurance processes to verify that all equipment and materials received meet design specifications, and that construction quality meets the applicable standards.

We continue to focus on improving facilities, risk management processes, and establishing clear roles and responsibilities with plant personnel. We are also applying leading indicators of process safety to enhance the ways we measure performance and identify areas for improvement.

In the event of an emergency, our operating facilities have the people and equipment in place to respond immediately to any accident, minor or major. We conduct hundreds of simulated emergencies each year to ensure a constant state of readiness and emergency response capability. These range from fire drills and equipment and personnel tests at local operating sites, to computer-simulation exercises, to full-scale, "catastrophic" simulations lasting two to three days.
