Economic development

Creating long-term economic and social benefits for our communities

One of the ways we measure success is how well we contribute to the quality of life in the places where we live and work. Enhancing education, developing a skilled workforce, creating jobs and supporting reliable local supply networks drive economic growth and a higher standard of living.

Performance overview

What we said we were going to do in 2009, what we did in 2010, and what we plan to do

We are focused on attracting and retaining high-quality and productive employees for a long-term career with the company.

Building and maintaining a diverse workforce is essential for a business to prosper.

By purchasing locally and developing long-term relationships with suppliers, we support capacity building and the development of local businesses.

We give back to local communities where we have a presence through financial contributions, in-kind donations and volunteer efforts.

Our volunteer program allows employees, retirees and their spouses who have volunteered a minimum of 20 hours at an eligible organization up to $1,000 in funding to support their organization.

We provide benefits to regional economies across Canada by creating jobs, investing in our operations and spending on local goods and services.
